After the marathon we headed to the northern border of Benin and went on safari in Parc Pendjari.
We saw baboons, elephants, antelope, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, warthogs and—the absolute highlight—a hyena. People often see lions, but we didn’t get lucky.
Our safari vehicle had seats on top which offered great animal viewing, but we got seriously dusty! The first morning, Adam got blasted by the wind on one side and came out with a clear dirt boundary across his face.
The best times for viewing animals are sunrise and sunset, which are also the most beautiful time to drive around the park.
