Getting a First Beninese Outfit Made

In an attempt to communicate more regularly, I’m posting a picture a day of our time in Benin. I’m already three months behind. Better late than never.

The pictures will start with a wrap-up of our first months to get up to speed with our current timeline. I hope you enjoy seeing a bit of our lives in Benin.

Jen with her tailor, our host sister and our host mother getting her first Beninese outfit made. Though Beninese also wear western style clothing, many people wear traditional outfits custom made by tailors. Our host sister and the tailor are sporting examples in this picture. There are hundreds of prints of fabric with endless patterns and color schemes. Choosing the fabric is always a challenge. Then, you choose what type of outfit you want made. Our town has many, many tailors. There are at least twenty within a ten minute walk of our house.
