Along the northern edge of the market’s border with the river, a trash dump has been created. I don’t know of any formal landfills in Benin. There are very few public trash cans. Most people throw trash wherever they happen to be standing. Later, trash is swept into piles by people taking care of the land around their home or business. Sometimes those trash piles are added to a larger pile in the community. Sometimes they are burned.
